[ It's been over a month since she showed up in Luceti. A month of putting on her perfect good little face that Charles approved of and staying out of anyone's business as much as possible. The effort is tiring sometimes and she revels in the chance to close all her curtains and be herself for once. And after some thinking she opens up her journal to address things. ]

What do you do when you're tired of pretending for someone who isn't even around? I know I'm not the only freak here but how long to you bother hiding?

Hey, I know I kind of vanished for a while but. It was all a little too much to take in all at once. Can we have a face to face? [ She takes a deep breath. ] A real face to face. I'll put my cards on the table if you will.

Why bother hiding? We are in a small village, with people from multiple different universes. Go out and do whatever the hell you want. If someone doesn't like it, tough.

Because I was born different from most people, and it was enough to make normal people afraid.

I really don't see the point. I wasted a millenium of my life playing the good boy for a people who only punished me all the more for it.

[ Advice from strangers is always a little sketchy but this sounds more like Eric than anything she's heard in a while. ]

He meant well, Charles just wanted to keep me safe.

[She's the girl that cares too much about what other people think of her. And, somehow at the same time, manages not to care at all. She's unlikable. And somehow, people like her. What was it Peeta used to say? That she had no idea of the effect she had on others?

Maybe it's true. Maybe it stems from that part of her that cares too damn much. That wants to be good enough for people like Peeta. Like Prim and Teddy. The people that don't deserve someone like her in their lives. And want her anyway.

But it's the part of her that doesn't care that replies. Even as she wonders if this girl would mind. The girl that looks like her. She doesn't hesitate in her opinion. If you hide, how could anything ever be real?]

[ She laughs a little at the thought of Katniss responding. The girl whose face she stole unintentionally. So instead of pretending she lets it slip a little in the video. Yellow eyes instead of blue before they change back again. ]

Especially when the truth is that you look a lot more like my brother without having to try.

There's people from all different worlds here, and plenty of people who have powers. There were even a few talking colourful ponies for a while. I don't think you need to hide.

[ It only takes a quick thought to make herself look like she usually does. No need to introduce everyone to her real self. ]

It's what I've been doing all my life up until recently. It's hard to break the habit.

That would depend on what you mean by hiding. Sometimes it's easier to hide in plain sight, take one mask off and keep another, less obvious one on. People here are more than willing to see the brighter sides of people and ignore the demons hidden within so long as they don't come out.

[Please pardon the colorful, cartoonish equine on the other end. Raven's message caught her ear pretty easily-- after all, some might consider her a "freak" by Luceti standards, even if she'd hardly agree.]

Who says you've gotta hide? Why try to be anything but yourself? I mean, I don't know who you are or why you think you're a freak, but you shouldn't have to bend over backwards just to please everyone else. Not if it's making you miserable.

[But that's assuming she is. Maybe she's not. That's the tough part-- not knowing.]

[ But she wasn't happy with it either. Having to hide all the time was a sucky state to be in. It was a constant weight making sure her face, her eyes, her hair were all fitting in the right way. ]

Well, that be all up to you, cherie. Ya doin' it for this person who ain't here, or for yaself? Sometimes those masks we put on for others be good ways to protect ourselves, 'nd we do it without realizin' it.

[Like Remy was one to talk, god knows he was still Jean Luc's little pet project and go to for jobs. He hated it, but pushed those feelings away. He may not be able to help himself, but maybe aid a fellow person in a similar situation.]

'nd I always found bein' a 'freak' tend to work well for me. More fun than playin' get 'long.

Being a freak isn't really optional for me, and yeah I do it to protect myself. People wouldn't understand, I got a nice taste of that already. There might be some here who aren't afraid but it isn't that simple.

[He won't make a comment about the freak part of it. Everyone has their insecurities, and if it has anything to do with this girl's predicament, outright telling her she isn't a "freak" might not be very convincing.]

I hide because I've been told it's not safe to be... myself. Around anyone.

Because it's what he taught me for years. It isn't safe in the real world for people who are different. And even though I know it's wrong it's easier to stick with what you've done for years.
